Aircraft Landing Gear shimmy is a complex physical phenomena where the interaction a slender flexible structure, such as a landing gear, and the dynamics of a flexible rotating wheel in contact with the runway generates moments and forces. The reaction forces can generate structural vibrations in the laterally or torsional directions. Landing gear systems are plagued with this problem because analyses are complex and difficult. Further, tests are very difficult and costly to conduct.

Skynetics has a wealth of experience analysing the shimmy phenomena, including analyses conduct in LMS Virtual.lab and MSc.ADAM. Skynetics has also developed a number of mathematical formulations which allow quick assessment of shimmy which also validate simulation results.
